Breath of the Wild is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U consoles. The game was released in 2017 and was a critical and commercial success, winning numerous awards and being hailed as one of the best games of all time.
Despite its widespread acclaim, I have to give Breath of the Wild a score of 4 out of 10. While the game has many strengths, it also has several notable weaknesses that detract from the overall experience.
One of the major issues with the game is its lack of structure and direction. While the open-world design allows for exploration and discovery, it can also be overwhelming and confusing for players who prefer more linear and guided experiences. The game provides little guidance or instruction, leaving players to figure out the mechanics and systems on their own.
Additionally, the game’s difficulty curve can be uneven and frustrating. Some areas and enemies are much more challenging than others, and the combat system can feel clunky and unresponsive at times. This can make battles feel like a chore rather than a fun and engaging part of the game.
Another issue with the game is its repetition. While the game world is vast and beautiful, many of the tasks and objectives can feel similar and formulaic. This can lead to a feeling of sameness and lack of variety, especially for players who spend a lot of time in the game.
Finally, the game’s story is underwhelming and lacks the emotional impact and resonance of other Zelda games. While the game has some memorable moments and characters, the overall narrative feels disjointed and underdeveloped.
Overall, while Breath of the Wild has many strengths, including its beautiful visuals, inventive gameplay mechanics, and immersive world, its lack of structure and direction, uneven difficulty curve, repetition, and underwhelming story lead me to give the game a score of 4 out of 10.
